WITH GREEN DEAL TO LIFE QUALITY
The Savinja and Šalek Valley is facing coal phase out. We want to be ready and start this journey with content, programmes, and measures, so that we can carry out a quality and fair restructuring of the region. At the conference we would like to get acquainted with the representatives of European countries and regions and get informed about abroad experience, concerning Law Preparations for Regional Restructuring and providence of Financial Resources as well as Support within Fair Transition.
In the restructuring process of the Savinja and Šalek Valley we must establish conditions for a pleasant life of the local community, which will satisfice and motivate residents not only to stay in the region, but to return from elsewhere due to the high level of provided services and opportunities. Therefore, we want to sustainably transform the energy system and location, which must remain one of the pillars of regional development. Rehabilitation and redevelopment of degraded areas, that will allow further spatial development and a high-quality natural and residential environment, are needed to create a diversified and resilient Regional Economy based on the principles of Sustainable Development. For our Valley the construction of the Third Development Axis is extremely important to provide good transport and rail infrastructure.
If we are successful in the restructuring process, the economy of the Savinja and Šalek Valley will continue to be recognised as the most successful in the country. The Transition from Coal is an important process that will have long-term consequences on the economy and a profound impact on our country's energy sector. We must therefore set the foundations that will enable a Fair Process. We need to bring together different stakeholders with the knowledge and strength to ensure an orderly transition that is fair to workers, the coal community, and citizens.
For this reason, an international conference entitled “Welcome, Future – with Green Deal to Life Quality” is taking place in Velenje on the 21st and 22nd of September 2021, to present examples of good practices of European cities and regions on the Road Out of Coal.
To ensure Fair Restructuring, two systemic laws are needed, namely the Velenje Coal Mine Closure Act and the SAŠA Region Restructuring Act. Objectives, key starting points, and common points of view will be formulated at Round Tables, where representatives of departmental ministries, businesses, support environments, local communities and trade unions will participate.
"You are cordially invited to co-create a new and green vision of Velenje!"

House of Culture Velenje
Titov trg 4
The House of Culture is the city's cultural meeting point, intended for cultural events, celebrations, cultural performances, symposia etc. It is the work of the architect Otto Gaspari, built in 1959. The building is located on the northwest of the Tito Square in Velenje, a modern and distinctly geometrically designed urban platform, which is spatially defined by authorially designed, modern public buildings.
